what i did:
1) enabled testing in pacman.conf
2) -Suy
3) installed followin pkgs:

4) modified /etc/X11/xorg.conf to fix paths
5) shut down X, log out, log in, startx
6) x seems to work... however, there are some strangenesses around:
- "Alt Gr" does not work any more. reason may be:

... however, the keymap seems to work fine in X (i use de_CH and can type
öäüéàè without problems)
- xfterm4 looks strange and also has this warning:

so far for now ... if anybody knows a solution to things mentioned here, feel
free to inform me... basically, X works fine... except some minor
uncertainities ;-)
ok, now i will try to find, what of my packages need immediate action to work
for testing (for example i see rasmol is broken with xorg7... most probably
of paths: "No suitable display detected!"). if you see a package belonging to
me and does not work with testing-repo, and is important to you, feel free to
stress it here. i will do my best to fix it asap. in worst case everything
(my pkgs) willb e done until end of weekend, because monday is biochemistry
start ;-)
... but first i have to set up the dev-environement on this old machine.
laptop is stil not working (ibm told me, they will get motherboard tomorrow
and a technician will visit me to replace it)
stay tuned... and feel free to report similar success/failure reports in reply
to this email to the mailinglist... so that others may learn (from
experience).
