try to add in your .xinitrc emerald first, then fusion-icon like this:

#!/bin/sh

#
# ~/.xinitrc
emerald &
exec fusion-icon

Run startx to see if that works. I think you have to run xfce4-session
too...

If it doesn't work, maybe you should enable somes options in PKGBUILD
for xfce compatibility ?
