I find mkinitcpio a pain in the ass. Since the transition, I have gotten
nothing but problems, unbootable systems, and similar.
Really, I don't understand the reasons for the change.

I keep a bootable image with initrd=/boot/kernel26-fallback.img,
so to increase the chances of a bootable system in case of problems.
Not that it does the right thing, like initrd did - it loads all kinds of
strange drivers - but at least it manages to bring up the kernel if there is
something wrong.

Unfortunately arch also names all the kernels "kernel26" so it is not possible
to keep a bootable kernel of an older version at an upgrade.
With some trickery I created a kernel named "kernel2618", as a backup, if an
upgrade is causing boot failure.
That is also the reason i DONT go through the /dev/hdx to /dev/sdx transition,
since it would make booting a backup kernel impossible.
